Algorithms. They are the one thing that everyone is trying to beat. Be that social media or search engine, there are things you can do to make sure that your content is seen.
The most powerful content you can create for your online platforms is the type that generates a conversation.
Facebook especially is heavy on engagement on your content. Its algorithm is based on how your audience is interacting with you and how much. It also includes how much they interact with each other.
The more conversation there is about your content and on your content online, the more favourable the algorithm. The more favourable the algorithm the bigger your reach.
That is exactly what you want. You can pay for boosting your posts but when your reach is organic, you're building a stronger presence and saving money at the same time.
Creating content that generates that conversation requires some thought but it's very achievable for any business in any niche.
In this blog, I'm sharing some ways on how you can generate that much-needed engagement with your content.
Be that social media or other platforms, these ideas will help you engage and move your audience.
Present two sides of the argument and then ask people which side they agree with and why
People love sharing their opinion. The only thing they love more than sharing their opinion is when it differs from someone else's. It's a great conversation generator when opposing views are discussed as people will go back and forth. Either with each other or with you.
Sharing two sides of an argument without actually revealing what side you are on will present a balanced view. People from both sides of the argument will be encouraged by your impartiality to participate in the conversation.
Ask your audience to share which side of the argument they are on and why.
Set ground rules for the conversation on your page or in your group to make sure that it doesn't get out of hand.
Intelligent conversation and debate can be refreshing. Some people might need help to follow the rules but dialogues like that can be really good content generators for you as well.
Watch what people respond with and how and take note of points you might want to expand later on in your live videos or your blogs. This will help continue the conversation and in the direction, you want to take it.
Ask a "what if" question about a pain point you have a personal experience with yourself
People are more inclined to share their troubles with you if you share your challenges with them first. Showing some vulnerability is good for you and for your audience.
When you share a personal experience in you vides and ask a "what if" question, encourage your audience to stop for a moment and engage their imagination.
It's so easy to get stuck in the here and now when you run a business and those "what if" questions help engage a side of your audience that will help them think about a possible future.
The engagement you get from these posts will help your page, for sure. They might also have profound effects on your audience.
When they share with you their "what if" it's a great opportunity for them to also share with you, and the rest of your audience, some personal epiphanies.
It's a small but meaningful way to start a transformation in someone who is looking for help but is lost. Don't underestimate the power of imagination. Help your audience find that place within themselves where they dare to entertain ideas of success.
Share a story about a profound transformational experience you had
This is close to the point I made above. Again, vulnerability is key in this type of content. Talk about your transformational experiences, your epiphanies, your challenges, and your triumphs.
Give your audience the gift of hope that one day, they can also be where you are. Transformation stories inspire people.
They feel compelled to share their own transformation stories.
We love reading and watching stories of others overcoming challenges against all odds. We get spurred on by the stories of others who have similar stories to us, who have worked on and achieved their goals.
It makes us feel like what we want is possible and achievable.
When you share your transformation stories you're building a sense of belonging in your audience.
That belonging where the people feel like they can relate to you and you can relate to them. Because you've been there and done that. Been where they are right now and have done the things they are doing now. And you made it to the other side.
Address common issues your audience faces, even if they've been done to death
Your audience wants to hear from you. If they wanted to hear from someone else, they'd go to someone else. Don't discount the power of simplicity in content. That goes for the ideas and the topics you cover.
You might think it's not worth creating content on topics that have been covered a gazillion times by other people. This is a common misconception.
You are serving YOUR audience. If you aren't talking about the things they want to know, they will find other sources.
I know you will not have the capacity to create content to cover every single question of your niche. Consider the basic and most frequently asked questions you get.
The simplest topic is often the most popular. Don't assume that something is common knowledge. Talk about basic things. These types of videos are highly shareable because of that very reason.
There are FAQ – frequently asked questions sections on many websites for this very reason.
Talk about something you're passionate about and allow your passion to show
Passion is contagious. When you share what you're passionate about with people here are the things that happen. Your audience gets fired up and wants to join you in your passion pursuit.
They also want to share with you what they are passionate about. They want to advocate for you and your business as one that is passionate about a particular cause.
This is a good opportunity to get to know your audience better. To evoke some strong emotions when they share their passion with you. This is also a case of sharing yours first as it can be a point of vulnerability with people.
Create a safe space for your audience to share these things with you. A space online where they can respond to your content with sharing of their own.
These types of posts often evoke feelings of support in and amongst your audience. Friendships can evolve as people with similar passions find each other.
They will forever credit your page or your group as the seed of their friendship.
This can be a great community building tool as well. Rotate these ideas on your page or in your group and create a place where people feel like they belong. They will be more inclined to share and participate in the conversation with more than just emoticons when they feel they have a place in the dialogue.
